Amongst a consistently changing global economy and threats from external competition, the European Union now contemplates the extent that regulations should implement policies to intensify the competitiveness of the European economy. Currently, the European Commission is deliberating the proposal of the Industrial Accelerator Act and its implications for EU businesses and global partners, specifically those operating in the manufacturing and energy industries.
The Industrial Accelerator Act: Is Your Supply Chain Ready?
After multiple delays and setbacks, the European Commission recently published its proposal for the Industrial Accelerator Act. The Act is a clear, strategic shift in policy towards strengthening the EU economy by increasing EU-origin requirements in public procurement and investments. It represents a direct response to rising external competition in manufacturing and energy sectors, and a clear move away from broad frameworks towards enforceable tools that promote EU manufacturing, business growth, and job creation.
The proposal has created a divide between Member States, with some observing the Act as a form of protectionism, where others support it as a necessary step to increase Europe’s global competitiveness. While the debate continues among the European Commission, the publication of this proposal signals a clear intention among policymakers towards intensifying the EU economy. For players in the manufacturing and energy industries, a reevaluation of supply chain partners may soon be necessary.
With an EU-based partner like MZ Automation, there is no need to pivot your communication protocols to meet potential new requirements. We are established in and operate out of Freiburg, Germany, and can provide the support and consistency you need to remain compliant with changing policies in this era of global economic uncertainty. We have completed many successful engagements with organizations particularly vulnerable to this proposed regulatory change.

MZ Automation completed an engagement with a national association of electricity and gas network operators. The engagement included developing a proof of concept focused on designing a data model based on version two of a Realtime Interface’s functionalities, implementing and validating IEC 61850 service mapping, and encoding and transmitting with JSON and WebSocket technologies. The proof of concept’s scope encompassed demonstrating the feasibility of combining the IEC 61850 data model already used in the version one Interface with modern WebSocket based communications, as well as addressing core technical feasibility, security, and usability considerations for deploying Interface functionality in a scalable, secure, and standardized manner across distributed energy resource environments.
MZ Automation was also engaged with a leading company which specializes in manufacturing and distributing building materials to complete an initiative composed of developing and integrating components of a generic substation data hub framework, and building software and applications tailored specifically to the client’s project needs. In this engagement, MZ Automation provided a robust, scalable, and efficient solution that supported critical features like plugin-based architecture, role-based access, and secure data handling.
